Official Education - Technical Controller Course
The purpose of the role of the Technical Controller (TC) and Assistant Technical Controller (ATC) is to identify all of the technical required elements (technical routines), free hybrids and acrobatics performed in real time as they occur in a routine.
They are also responsible for the identification of any “technical errors”, which are differences in what is declared on the coach card to what is performed in the water OR an error in a technical required element (technical routines). The TCs and ATCs should attend training sessions prior to the event with the submitted coach cards.
The roles of the TC and ATC are as follows:
- The Technical Controller (TC) verbally calls the technical required elements (technical routines), free hybrids, and acrobatics as they happen – as declared on the submitted coach card. TC assigns duties to ATC. We are anticipating that we will need three technical controllers (TC/ATC-1/ATC- 2). We expect to require more TC for teams than solo and duet categories. Below you will find a break-down of the anticipated areas:
- Technical Required Elements: Technical routines only (verification if they did the EL as declared and as defined in the rules)
- Hybrid: Base Mark: No. of Moves & Time Underwater
- Hybrid: Declared movements (Family/Level)
- Hybrid: Bonuses (TR, A, PL, SY, PC)
- Acrobatics: Declared composition as per catalogue
- Synchronizations mistakes (unequal actions): number and type
- The Technical Controller (TC) confirms or denies if the declared difficulty (Free Hybrid, Acrobatic or Technical Required Element) has been performed as stated on the submitted coach card. Action when declared difficulty is denied is as per the FINA rules (Base Mark for Free Hybrids and Acrobatics, Zero (0) for Technical Required Elements).
